Horse Pencil Drawing

Ok, so it's been a long time since I have sat down and drawn anything. Several years as far as I can remember. So I stopped by Hobby Lobby the other day and picked up a new sketch pad, some pencils and an eraser.

I use to really enjoy wildlife and animal art, so I thought I'd try doing a horse pencil drawing. I borrowed a photograph of one of the horses at Diego Ranch in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Once I finally settled down and started drawing, I found that I struggled at first. It took me a while to get the feel for it again. Proportions were the most difficult part and it took me a while to get it laid out.

After I had the basic outline formed I began filling in the details. I started in the top left and worked my way down and over so as not to make a lot of smudges. I used a scrap piece of paper to put under my drawing hand to try and keep it to a minimum.

Since I was struggling to get back into the swing of it, after several hours I set it aside and came back to it the next evening. It took me another evening after that to finish. Overall the final piece wasn't too bad. Not as good as what I use to do, but ok.

Hopefully in the near future I can find the time to get in a little more practice.
